Beauty Review: THEFACESHOP Aqua Tinted BB Cream

Hello, I'm back with another beauty review on THEFACESHOP Aqua Tinted BB Cream. Right off the bat, I could already say that this is hands down my FAVOURITE go-to tinted moisturizer/bb cream! I love it and I'm going to keep repurchasing it.

Please keep my stats in mind as you read the following review.
Skin type: Asian; dry in the winter, normal-dry in the summer; mildly sensitive
Age: 19-25

411 the product:
- BB Cream/tinted moisturizer
- Light-medium coverage
- SPF20/PA+++
- Floral, refreshing scent
- Light, watery texture
- There are only two shades and mine is Natural Beige (the darker one)

"With a 70% MOISTURE CONTENT, including DEEP SEA WATER, a light application provides a sense of coolness and freshness the moment it touches the skin."

This is the only picture w/ edited lighting. The others have unedited lighting.

Okay, first off. I bought this product on a whim at TheFaceShop store at Pacific Mall because I wasn't really planning on getting this one specifically. I was looking for something lighter than foundations because summer was coming. It's not that I had cake-y problems with foundations, I just find that they are too moisturizing and not hydrating enough, especially for the summer time. I did a little research on TheFaceShop's best BB Creams and came across this one. When I went to the store and swatched it on my hand, I was so pleased by the way my skin felt. It literally felt like I was putting thickened water on my skin and it gave my hand a cooling sensation. I picked it up without a second thought, thinking that I've found my holy grail tinted moisturizer.

It comes in a tube bottle, which is perfect for sanitary reasons

Since it is a BB Cream, I expected the coverage to be a little light, but I was surprised at how well it managed to conceal some of my diminishing acne scars. As you can see here, a little goes a long way. This little dot is enough to cover the entire back of my hand. I suppose the cream is buildable as well. I personally have never tried applying more than one layer, but judging from its light, watery texture, it seems to be one of the easily buildable BB Creams. When applied with a foundation brush, it goes on smoothly without creating any streak marks.

Most BB Creams with SPF/built-in sunscreens have very pungent, sun-like scents, which drive me nuts! But despite having SPF20/PA+++ the scent of this BB Cream is very pleasant and I LOVE it!! Moreover, while other BB Creams have a pearl/grayish tone, this one leans more towards yellow and for me, that is per-tothe-fect-o!

Freshly applied, normally with fingers. The photo on right is bare skin.

From this photo, you can see that the cream sets in wonderfully and it provides your skin with that natural, dewy glow we all desperately long for. I have been using this cream for months and I can safely tell you that it doesn't break out my skin. But keep in mind that everyone's skin is different. I don't get cystic acne frequently. Most of the time, the main issues with me are excess production of oil and clogged pores. Thankfully, this product does neither. It keeps your oil production in control and doesn't clog your pores. You don't get that tight feeling as if your skin cannot breathe. Also, I don't remove my makeup until very late at night, so if I'm out in the morning, I'm bound to keep the makeup on my face for 12+ hours, and it still doesn't break me out.
If you have oilier skin, you might want to get a mattifying or blotting powder, in case you need to blot your face/T-zone throughout the day. I personally apply Maybelline's  Dream Matte powder once every time I finish applying my base makeup (foundation/BB Cream + concealer) and don't find the need to blot my face for the rest of the day. For concealer, I am currently using the Makeup Forever Full Cover concealer in shade #7 to cover up my acne scars. The concealer blends seamlessly with the BB Cream. There is no visible discrepancy of shades whatsoever between the two products.

After a few minutes; no powder added

This is the final result after being left for a few minutes to set. The dewy glow is still there, the application is flawless, and the tinted effect is brilliant.

For your convenience, I have included a screenshot of the ingredients. For those of you who are icky about having parabens in your beauty products, this one may not be for you. I used to be one of those people, but this is only makeup, and I don't wear it every day. Besides, it is not skin care, which is supposed to treat your skin and gets absorbed by the skin like food.

Last message: If you are intending to drop by THEFACESHOP store at Pacific Mall, the ahjumma (older lady) there is very nice. She usually sits at the cash register. If she comes to recognize you from frequent purchase, she will give you lots of great samples with a purchase.

I hope my review helps those with a similar situation. Please leave me some comments and questions if you have any! xx

Happy shopping,

  1. Hey Hazel! Thanks for the review. I usually switch to BB Cream in the summer as well, because it just feels so much better not to feel the heavy foundation on your skin in the heat. However I have a pretty oily skin. Do you think this could work for me? And how is the coverage? I know it can't be too high because it's only a tinted moisturizer but some give more coverage than others. I usually use Maybelline's BB Cream but am not too happy with it and am looking to get a new one.
By the way, if you need any help finding a new foundation that suits your skin type, skin tone, the coverage you need and the finish you're looking for, check out http://www.beauty.ps/tool/foundation. It's pretty amazing.

    Hope you like it :).

    1. Hi Lucy,
Thanks for your comment. If you have oily skin, I suggest you use a setting powder and be prepared to blot your skin a few times throughout the day.. Unless you have a good primer on under the bb cream, you might not need to blot as much. As for coverage, it's light, but I'm sure it's buildable. It won't make your face look cakey because the texture is light and watery. It feels cooling on the skin. I have yet to try other BB Creams, but from my own experience, this is one of the best I've tried.
